This small triangular square was built only during the nineteenth century. It is located at the site of an important crossroads in the Roman city of Tolosa, since this was the intersection of cardo maximus and decumanus maximus, and therefore the heart of the city. It remained, in the Middle Ages, an important place that benefited from the activity of the Grand-rue, which goes from the place du Salin to the place du Capitole: artisans, merchants and capitouls settled there until the eighteenth century. Cleared by the architect of the city Jacques-Pascal Virebent in 1820 and embellished with a fountain by the architect Urbain Vitry, it lives most of its buildings refurbished in the nineteenth century and offers beautiful facades, such as the house Lamothe. Pedestrian in the 1990s, lined with cafés that install their terraces, it is one of the most pleasant places in the city.
